Recently I had an idea. The idea was I would host a small morning tea to support the Pink Ribbon Day and raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Well my little idea quickly took on a life of its own, as everyone I spoke to thought it was a fantastic idea and wanted to become involved.
Before I knew it, a Committee had been formed, a scenic location overlooking the Arafura Sea was secured and plans were well under way.
The generosity of the the local Business's and everyone in Gove was amazing, we were totally overwhelmed with the amount of donations, vouchers, food, raffle prizes and pink Champagne that came pouring in.
All our friends and neighbour's got busy baking, and they produced a fantastic selection of delicious pink cakes and sweets. They also willingly helped out on the day, and were joined by the Gove year 8 students, who helped with the setting up, raffle ticket sales and lots of other jobs.
Then it all began, the people came, everyone had dug deep into their wardrobes and got into the Pink theme, our MC even dyed her blonde hair pink for the day - Thanks Rhoda! A pink note donation was required to enter and all the fabulous raffle prizes were on display, not even a quick downpour of rain could ruin the atmosphere. (Well ok I was stressing out, but only for a few minutes).
More than 100 people attended the Pink Ribbon Morning tea with their children and due to everyones generosity and all the donations the Grand Total raised was $7732-00. What a fantastic effort for a small community of very special people.
I would like to thank everyone involved and everyone who came for making my little idea such a resounding success.
A big thank you to the Committee: Helen, Lisa, Sue and Margaret, I couldn't have done it without you!
So if you ever have an idea - no matter how big or small - my advice is to have a go, great things can happen.
Cheers Shelley
