Simone Browne, Sydney's Supernanny explains how to be a confident and happy parent.
Parenting doesn't always come naturally so these great hints and tips will help you to parent with confidence.
How to be a Confident Parent
* Attend to your child’s needs first and foremost – your children in turn will develop trust, love and respect.
* Pace yourself – take one day at a time.
* Be positive and set yourself realistic tasks.
* Go with your instincts.
* Get out of the house – fresh air, a dose of sunlight and change of scenery is beneficial for you and your child.
* Try taking on a calm demeanor (even if your performance resembles that of an Oscar winning actor!).
* Maintain a sense of humour.
* Keep in touch with friends and relatives for moral support.
* Ask for assistance if you feel anxious or overwhelmed.
* If you are bombarded with unwanted advice, smile, accept it graciously, but don’t feel obliged to follow it -do what works best for you and your family.
* Prioritize your housework and be practical.
* Be kind to yourself and learn to relax.
* Allocate some time with your partner alone – it’s a necessity.
* Reflect on what you’ve learnt as a parent and be impressed!
